Did you choose a career in insurance or did you fall into the industry like so many others? Briefly share your story.
I fell into the industry like many others. I was fresh out of University – with no plan to study further or start working. I got a call from a school mate, informing me of an internship at Lion of Africa. I applied and within a month, I started my internship in the reinsurance division. From that day on, I never looked back.
Why did you choose to enter The Insurance Apprentice?
I chose to enter The Insurance Apprentice, because I wanted to grow, to learn and to have fun. TIA is the platform to do all that, and also meet amazing colleagues within the industry. And of course, there is Lloyd’s of London. I want to go to see the Lloyd’s offices.
In your mind, what qualities should an ambassador of The Insurance Apprentice have?
• Leadership skills; • Passion about growth and skills development; • The ability to interact with different people at different levels; • Good work ethics; and • Relatable and open minded.
Who has been the biggest influencer on your career and why?
My ex manager, Warren Koch. Warren believed in me and challenged me all the time. He was not only a manager but also a colleague and a mentor. His personality was so relatable. He was always friendly and practiced the policy ‘my door is always open, if you need help’. I learned a lot about insurance because of him. He opened so many doors for me and allowed me to meet and greet the big players in the industry.

How important is winning for you?
It would not only open doors for me to explore and learn/grow. But most importantly, winning simply says “girl, your dreams are valid and you can achieve anything and everything you set your mind to.”
Advice to yourself about what you should remember and focus on as you are going into the competition.
Don’t lose yourself. Be true to who you are. Don’t panic. Relax and face every task with dignity, respect and importance. Nerves are okay but don’t let them control you. And lastly, enjoy every minute and focus on the day and forget about the following day or the previous day. And have fun!!!
